Embassy Glyndŵr staff member Gethin ap Gruffydd has been carrying out a campaign entitled "I'r Gad" for the last ten years in order to draw attention to the fact that, unlike England, Scotland and Ireland, Cymru has not got a Battlefield Register. As well as providing information in regards to the locations of many important 'battle sites' in Welsh history on his "I'r Gad" blog, Gethin has travelled to the many Owain Glyndŵr 'battle site' locations throughout Wales with 'Tarian Glyndŵr' (another department within Embassy Glyndŵr) to symbolically register these sites in the name of Cenedl Glyndŵr)

The registration work being carried out at these 'battle sites' by 'Tarian Glyndŵr' is 'strictly' symbolic and for publicity purposes in regards to the sites of course, with photos of the registrations being posted on this and the  "I'r Gad" blog - which is always sent on to the relevant 'Cadw' officials.

Gethin has also corresponded with, both, the Cadw officials and with the RCAHMW on the matter over the years and the latter in a letter received by Gethin (about 6 yrs ago) did promise to look into the matter of 'no register' further in coordination with Cadw and, at last, by chance whilst carrying out further web research this morning, I came across a WAG/Cadw consultation document on this most important of issues. Last year we carried out a joint 'Tarian Glyndŵr' and 'Brwydrau Glyndŵr' event to mark, both, the 'Land Grab' sale of the Vyrnwy Estate and to commemorate the 'Battle of Vyrnwy' which took place on 24 Medi 1400. Please remember everyone to answer the queries made by Cadw at the end of the consultation document. There is only a week left to do this!  Not only is it important historically wise to preserve our battle fields but registering them will safeguard the sites from being developed on - whether it be housing, Windmill Farms or anything else!

In this post as well photos of the Bryn Glas Battle site I recently visited, photos show what can be achieved by local effort here down to the Friends of Pilleth. However, must point out that Gethin Gruffydd and Toni Lewis had started to promote this Battle Site in the 'Sixties' and there is film of them visiting. As well Cofiwn in the 'Seventies' held events here and put up a provisional wooden plaque though today there has been made vast improvements to the site and it is indeed worth visiting.
